Uh, yea- so I'm maybe the worst mom that ever existed! I have taken my daughter to ONE...O. N. E. story time at a library during her entire life. That's a bit redic...I was a teacher- am a teacher- for CRYING OUT LOUD!!!!!!!!! Honestly. I need to get my priorities straight.
So. I've kind of been working on a schedule for her, or as I like to call them- lesson plans. For those of you that I know from my old school days, I realize you're in full-blown laughter-mode right about now and I'm okay with that. However- I'm kind-of serious. I have this friend, Molly. She has an almost 5 year old daugher who will be in kindergarten in less than a year and I SWEAR-- Jenna knows everything an 8 year old would! Makenna's smart, that's for sure, I'm not saying she's not. But I don't 'work' with her the way I should. She knows her letters, sounds, numbers, patterns, colors, shapes- the usual...she's starting to write the ABC's...whatnot. BUT- I DO realize she could be doing more, much more. I also fully understand she's only three and experience has a lot to do with learning at this age too. We're all about experiences here at the Dohrmann Household...not lacking in that department at all! :)
This is what I'm thinking. She has school on M and W mornings. That's enough in my book. Tuesdays are dance days. I'd like to at least spend an hour in the mornings doing something academic. My personal goal. As for Thursdays- we'll start going to the library at 11:00, do story time, a craft, and then check out books. Fridays may have to be our 'non-learning day' if you will, and we'll read our borrowed books throughout the weekend. I don't want to push her, but she's SO VERY capable. I'm on it...and will return with your updated report card next quarter! :) And ps. She stopped wearing a pull-up to bed back in June-ish/July. I think I forgot to mention that like forever ago. She's such a good girl.
So here's a picture of our first Thursday at story time. Ms. Nola is really great and even pulled Makenna up to do a little demonstration. Oh, that 'ole limelight. It just sucks ya in! Even Bennett was a participant. She grabbed him, did a little jig, and he did great too! We checked out some good reads. Makenna wanted all Christmas stories. We just got one. :)
