It's the real deal, the big kahoona, the sweet one. (No pun intended.)
It was one year ago I had this little bundle. I was five days over due, miserable, and extremely ready to not be pregnant. I starting having contractions after eating spicy wings and fries and checked into the hospital a little before midnight on the 10th. Received an epidural around 3:00am and then he was born (so much easier than Lil Miss Mak) at 8:22 on Oct 11. Our family of four had been established.
Such a sweet babe.
This is still one of my favorite pictures.
Fast forward 365 days and this is what you get. A super-smiley, happy, healthy baby boy.
In the past, we have taken Makenna on her birthdays to Texas Roadhouse to get on the saddle. Of course, we wanted to keep the tradition alive! Just look at him- he thought he was all that and a bag of chips! (And in which case, he usually is.)
On a more emotional note- to be honest-- I wasn't emotional AT ALL! Is something wrong with me?....I care, don't I!? I remember when Makenna turned one, I had all these feelings rush back, I felt like I had missed out on so much, I was upset with myself because I hadn't taken off the day of her actual birthday. A total mushy mess. Is it because he's the second? Is it because he's a boy? Is it because I've been home with him? Maybe it's a combo?....Whatever the case, I am VERY glad I wasn't as emotional and look forward to other many non-emotional days!! :) They just wear me out- do they you?!
Anyway Bubba-- Happy, Happy, Happy 1st Birthday!! We are so thankful to have you be a BIG part of our lives. And here's to many, many more.
Items we can cross off the list:
- He is completely fascinated by sunshine!
- His memory is really growing at this point. He remembers games we play, like pat-a-cake, when I bite on his fingers at bedtime, etc.
- He's able to recognize and understand certain words. I can tell him to kick his legs, dance, clap, give kisses, ask him if he's thristy, and he responds with the appropriate reaction. He'll get super excited when he hears you say doggy or bath time.
- He has started pointing at things. It's like he's asking, "What's this called?!" Adorable.
- He'll play peek-a-boo, but uses the back of his hands instead of his palms. Pretty funny.
- When he tries to put socks on, or a hat on, or sunglasses on...you better watch. It'll make your day.
- He doesn't SHUT UP while he's eating. Not kidding- moans and whines for more throughout his entire meal. And if he sees you eating...oh- it's game on!
-He's standing for very long periods at this point and will take 4-5 steps if he has good balance.
- He has 4 teeth total to date. Here are his top two.
- And for the record friends, I do not cut his hair like that! I promise- pinky swear!! Since the day he was born, he's had tons of hair on the top and not too much on the sides. (Totally opposite of this Daddy, btw.) After the nurse brought him back in after his first bath, she had spiked up his hair with some lotion. I thought it was adorable and stuck with it. So several times now, I've cut the little mohawk part, but nothing else. It was like he was meant to have great hair. Jesse from Full House would be SO impressed! :)
